“By now, everyone in the West should know that there is mass slave labor in the Chinese province of Xinjiang, where Muslim Uyghurs live. The slaves have to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and without pay. Worse, they are not even Uyghurs, but foreigners, and Americans at that. The inhumane owners of the cotton farms, most of whom are Uyghurs themselves, force American John Deere machines to do unlimited slave labor on their 90% automated farms.
To counter this abuse, the United States, as a champion of human rights, responded forcefully with a law banning the purchase of cotton from China that is better and cheaper than American cotton. They also would like John Deere to stop selling machinery there. Perhaps Washington would rather see human slaves in the cotton fields of China than machines, as was the case in American fields during the heyday of American cotton.
Western politicians, activists and media have also forcefully pointed out to us that an egregious genocide is being committed there at the same time. They may present the evidence to us later, e.g., satellite photos of such camps showing emaciated figures huddled over rags being driven to their deaths, photos of death marches or of death squads lining up people against walls and shooting them—scenes that also occur in the Holocaust—the smearing of shop windows, or that Uyghurs are required to wear clearly recognizable clothing, such as a star and a crescent (instead of a Star of David) or executions in burial pits, smoking crematoria, or at least video evidence of mass transports of people in trains or trucks to their extermination sites. So we are waiting quite eagerly for the corresponding documentation.
With so many horror stories coming out of China, it should no longer come as a surprise that numerous mainstream Western journalists have taken seriously a new China story, as disturbing as it is fictional, about a coup d’état and the arrest of Chinese President Xi Jinping:
The nuclear giant Middle Kingdom is descending into chaos! “Where there’s smoke there’s fire, as they say, and there is a column of smoke the likes of which we haven’t seen since July 64 AD pouring out of Beijing,” announced the Australian edition of the British newspaper The Spectatorgrandiloquently.
In addition to The Spectator, Newsweek, “MSN.com,” the Daily Telegraph, Newsmaxand numerous others also reported on it.
Who is behind it?
The source appears to be Jennifer Zeng, who apparently reported it first. She is a producer of news media with titles such as Epoch Times and “NDTV,” which are associated with the Falun Gong sect, also known as Falun Dafa (“Practice of the Law Wheel” in Chinese). She did not provide any sources or evidence.
The leader of the Falun Gong sect is Li Hongzhi, a former Chinese soldier living in New York. He teaches that aliens have brought science to the world so that they can take control of human bodies. His followers believe that he has supernatural powers which he can transfer to others by installing literal, undetectable, inter-dimensional wheels in the abdomens of his elite practitioners (those who have paid a lot of money for his courses and training). This enables them to heal others and even levitate (though this has never been filmed).
Members must put the cult above family and even health: The organization teaches its members not to take modern medicines, but to try to be cured through meditation and purification, even if it turns out that this does not help and worsens the patient’s condition.
The sect is against interracial marriages, homosexuality and any sexual relations outside marriage, claiming that these create negative karma. It also practices a kind of exorcism.
Although Falun Gong claims to be about well-being and happiness, it has all the stereotypical components of an authoritarian group, including magic, lies, a supernatural savior, the threat of impending doom, and other standard characteristics of modern cults, with the added bonus of victimhood (as a group supposedly brutally persecuted by China).
The only question that remains is: Could it be that the quality standard of Western media that rely on such sources to spread China horror and gossip will drop even further?
But let’s give the U.S. president the final word: Joe Biden and his predecessors have ensured that Chinese competitors, from agriculture (cotton) to high technology (Huawei, SMIC) to social media (Instagram competitor TikTok), are excluded from competition through coercive measures such as boycotts and sanctions.
